What is an AI research assistant?
An AI research assistant is software that finds, reads and summarises information for you. A good one searches current sources, shows where each fact came from and turns what it finds into something you can use: an answer, a report, a table or a file. Rixx is an AI research assistant built as an agent. Research is on by default, there is no search toggle, and every fact it takes from the web is cited inline.
Most people come to research AI with one of five kinds of work. Rixx handles all five from the same prompt box.
Five research jobs, one assistant
Ask anything
Ask a factual question and get a researched, cited answer in seconds. Rixx searches the live web, reads the pages, and puts a numbered citation next to each fact. Charts and tables appear right in the chat when the answer has numbers in it. Use it for the questions you would otherwise answer with ten browser tabs: a regulation change, a company's latest results, the current price of a product, a definition with its source.
Deep research
Some questions need more than one search. Ask for a market overview, a literature scan or a due-diligence brief and Rixx runs it as a job: it plans the research, works through many sources, follows up on gaps and writes a cited report. Read more on the deep research page.
Wide research
When the job is the same question asked about many things, Rixx splits it across parallel agents and merges the results. "Profile 30 companies", "compare 12 tools" or "summarise every major policy on X" come back as one table or report, with sources. See wide research.
Analyse your data and documents
Upload PDFs (up to 1,000 pages), Word, Excel, PowerPoint, CSV files and images, then ask across them. Answers point back to the document. For spreadsheets and CSVs, Rixx uses its own private workspace, with a full terminal and Python, to clean the data, compute results and draw charts. The AI PDF summarizer page covers long documents in more detail.
Make the file
Research often ends in a deliverable. Rixx builds editable Word documents and PDFs, Excel workbooks with working formulas that are recalculated and checked, and PowerPoint decks with six themes and native charts. Sources stay inside the file. Rixx renders and reviews each file before it hands it back. See the AI report generator.
Two speeds: an answer or a job
Rixx works at two speeds. Answer gives you a quick, researched, cited reply in chat. Job is an agent that plans, researches, analyses and builds files in the background, so you can leave and come back. Auto picks the right speed from your prompt, and you can choose Job yourself when you know the work is big.

Who uses an AI research assistant
- Consultants use Rixx for market scans, competitor tables and client-ready briefs. See management consultants.
- Analysts use it to pull figures from the web and their own exports into one sourced workbook. See market analysts.
- Founders use it for market sizing, competitor research and investor material. See founders.
- Investors use it for first-pass diligence on a company or sector. See venture capitalists.
- Students and academics use it to read papers, compare findings and organise a literature review. See students and researchers.
Tips for better research prompts
- Name the decision. "Should we enter the German market?" gets a sharper report than "Tell me about Germany".
- Set the scope. Give a region, a time range and the sources you trust, such as government statistics or peer-reviewed studies.
- Say what you want back. A table, a 2-page memo, a Word file, an Excel workbook. Rixx builds what you ask for.
- Attach what you already have. Your notes, exports and PDFs become part of the evidence, alongside the web.
- Ask for the gaps. "List what you could not confirm" or "flag conflicting figures" makes the report easier to review.
What it costs
Every plan, including Free, gets every feature: cited answers, deep research, wide research, data analysis and files. Free includes 50 credits a day plus 500 a month. Plus is $8 a month (Starter is ₹399 in India), Pro is $20 and Max is $100. A quick cited answer uses a few credits; a deep report or a job that builds files uses more. You only pay for what a job uses. See pricing.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a free AI research assistant?
Yes. Rixx has a Free plan with 50 credits a day plus 500 a month, and it includes every feature: cited answers, deep and wide research, file analysis and file creation. Paid plans add more credits, stronger models and higher limits.
Does Rixx search the web for every question?
Research is on by default and there is no search toggle. Rixx researches the live web whenever a question depends on facts, and every fact it takes from the web is cited inline. A request like rewriting your own paragraph is answered from what you supplied.
How accurate is an AI research assistant?
Accuracy depends on the sources. That is why Rixx cites every web fact inline: you can open the exact page behind a claim and judge it yourself. For important decisions, check the key figures against the original sources.
Can Rixx find academic papers?
Yes. Rixx searches the open web, which includes journal sites, preprint servers and university pages, and it reads PDFs you upload. Ask it to compare studies, extract methods and results, or build an evidence table.
Can I upload my own files?
Yes. Upload PDFs up to 1,000 pages, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, CSV files and images. Rixx answers across them with references back to the document and can combine them with web research in the same job.
What is the difference between an AI research assistant and an AI search engine?
An AI search engine gives you a cited answer. A research assistant goes further: it can run a multi-step investigation, analyse your data and deliver a report or file. Rixx does both. See AI search engine.
How do I check a citation?
Click the numbered citation to open the source, find the sentence or figure it supports, and confirm the date. The AI that cites sources page walks through it.
