What is deep research?
Deep research is AI research that runs as a multi-step job instead of a single search. The agent plans the questions it needs to answer, searches and reads many sources, follows up on gaps and contradictions, and writes a structured report with citations. It takes minutes rather than seconds, and the result is a document rather than a chat reply.
In Rixx, deep research is one of the jobs the agent does. You don't switch on a research mode. Ask for a report and Auto hands it to a job; you can also choose Job yourself.
What a Rixx deep research job does
- Plans the research. Rixx breaks your question into sub-questions and keeps a research map of what it has found and what is still open. For a big job it may ask two or three quick multiple-choice questions first, such as audience or region.
- Reads widely. It searches the live web, reads the pages, and reads any files you attached. A job can draw on dozens to hundreds of sources.
- Checks what changes. Prices, market sizes, laws, product features and recent events are looked up fresh, not recalled.
- Analyses the numbers. When the research produces data, Rixx can use its own private workspace, with a full terminal and Python, to compute, compare and chart it.
- Writes and reviews. It writes the report, cites each claim where it is made, builds the files you asked for, then renders and reviews them before handing them back.
Jobs run in the background. You can close the tab and come back to the finished report.
Rixx vs ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity deep research
All four products offer deep research. Here is how they differ, based on each company's own help and plan pages as of October 2026.
| Rixx | ChatGPT deep research | Gemini Deep Research | Perplexity Research | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| How you start it | Just ask. Auto hands multi-step research to a job, or choose Job | Choose deep research in ChatGPT | Choose Deep Research; Gemini turns your prompt into a research plan you can edit | Select Research in the search box's mode selector |
| Who gets it | Every plan, Free included | All plans, with allowances by plan: "Limited" on Free, "Expanded" on Plus (pricing) | Included on the free Gemini plan; paid plans raise usage limits (plans) | Limited on Free, extended on Pro (help) |
| How usage is counted | Credits for what the job uses; no separate task counter | Task allowance shown in an in-app counter, reset every 30 days for fixed allowances (FAQ) | Shared Gemini usage limits that refresh every five hours up to a weekly limit (plans) | By plan: limited on Free, extended on Pro |
| Sources | Live web plus your PDFs, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, CSV and images | Web sources with citations | Hundreds of websites, plus Gmail, Drive and Chat with your permission (overview) | Many searches across a large number of sources, with the plan refined as it goes |
| What you get back | Cited report in chat plus editable Word, PDF, Excel and PowerPoint files, with sources kept inside | A cited report in ChatGPT | A multi-page report that can become interactive content, quizzes or audio overviews in Canvas | A structured report you can export as a PDF or document, or turn into a Page |
The short version: Rixx treats deep research as a normal job. There is no special mode to remember and no separate monthly task count, and the report arrives as files your team can edit.
Deep research vs wide research
Deep research goes down into one question. Wide research goes across many items: "profile 30 companies" or "compare 15 tools". Rixx splits wide jobs across parallel agents and merges the results into one table or report. Many real projects use both: a wide scan to build the list, then deep research on the three that matter.
Example: from question to report
Say you ask: "Is there room for a new premium pet-food brand in the UK? Cover market size, growth, leading brands, price points, channels and regulation. Deliver a cited Word report and an Excel file with the figures."
A Rixx job would plan the sub-questions, pull market estimates from several publishers and note where they disagree, collect brand and price data from retailer and company pages, check the current regulatory guidance, and put the figures in a workbook with working formulas. You get a Word report with a summary, sections, tables and inline citations, plus the Excel file. Open both, check the sources, edit the wording.
Writing a good deep research prompt
- State the decision or audience. "For an investment committee" changes what Rixx emphasises.
- Bound the scope. Region, time range, and the segments you care about.
- Name trusted sources. "Prefer government statistics and company filings."
- Ask for disagreement. "Show the range of estimates and explain why they differ."
- Pick the formats. Word, PDF, Excel, or a short PowerPoint summary. A job can deliver up to 20 files.
- Attach what you have. Internal notes and exports are read alongside the web.

What deep research costs on Rixx
Deep research is on every plan. Free includes 50 credits a day plus 500 a month. Plus is $8 a month (Starter is ₹399 in India), Pro is $20 and Max is $100. A quick cited answer uses a few credits; a deep report or a job that builds files uses more. You only pay for what a job uses. See pricing.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a free deep research AI?
Yes. Deep research is included on Rixx's Free plan, which gives you 50 credits a day plus 500 a month. Every feature is on every plan; paid plans add credits, stronger models and higher limits.
How long does a deep research job take?
Most reports take minutes. Large jobs with many sources or several files can run longer. They run in the background, so you can leave and come back when the report is ready.
How many sources does Rixx read?
It depends on the question. A job can draw on dozens to hundreds of sources, and Rixx keeps searching while there are open questions in its research plan.
Can I check where each fact came from?
Yes. Every fact Rixx takes from the web is cited inline at the point of the claim, and the report includes a sources list. Click a citation to open the page.
What formats can I get the report in?
A cited report in chat, plus editable Word, PDF, Excel and PowerPoint files. Sources stay inside the files.
How is Rixx different from ChatGPT or Gemini deep research?
You don't pick a research mode: ask, and Rixx runs it as a job. It reads your own files alongside the web, runs Python on the data, and delivers editable files with sources kept inside. See the table above and Rixx vs ChatGPT.
Can deep research use my own documents?
Yes. Attach PDFs up to 1,000 pages, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, CSV files or images, and Rixx uses them as evidence alongside the web, with references back to the document.
