AI that cites sources

An AI that cites its sources, every time it uses the web

Rixx researches before it answers. Research is on by default, there is no search toggle, and every fact it takes from the web carries an inline citation you can click.

Jobs to try

  • Fact with a source: What is the current federal minimum wage in the US, and which states have the highest minimum wage in 2026? Cite official sources.
  • Statistic for a slide: Find the most recent estimate of global data-centre electricity use, who published it and how it compares with five years earlier. Cite each number.
  • Claim check: Is it true that most new US startups are now founded by people over 40? Find the original data, cite it and explain what it does and does not show.
  • Cited paragraph: Write a 150-word paragraph on the causes of the 2026 rise in global coffee prices for a newsletter, with inline citations to the sources.
  • Sources for a report: Find 8 credible sources on the effect of AI tools on software developer productivity since 2024. For each, give the finding, method and link.

What you get back

  • Inline, numbered citations: Each web fact has a numbered citation next to it. Click it to open the page it came from.
  • Answers from the live web: Rixx searches and reads current pages before it answers questions that depend on facts.
  • Files that keep their sources: Reports cite claims where they are made and include a sources list; slides built from research carry source lines.

Researched and cited by default

No search toggle and no research mode to switch on. Rixx researches the live web before it answers a factual question, reads the files you give it, and cites every fact it uses.

Cited by default, not on request

Many AI tools can cite sources. The difference is when. In some, citations appear only when the tool decided to search, or after you pick a search or research option. Rixx is built the other way round: research is on by default, there is no search toggle, and every fact it takes from the web is cited inline.

That rule holds whether you ask a one-line question or run a long job. A quick answer cites its facts sentence by sentence. A deep research report cites each claim where it is made and ends with a sources list. A deck carries source lines on the slides that use outside data.

What a Rixx citation looks like

  • Numbered and inline. The citation sits right after the sentence, table row or bullet it supports, not in a list at the bottom.
  • Clickable. Each number opens the page Rixx read.
  • Tied to evidence Rixx actually gathered. Citations point to sources found for your question. Rixx removes citation numbers that don't match a source it retrieved.
  • Documents too. When you ask about uploaded files, answers point back to the document, so you can find the passage.

How to check an AI citation in three steps

  1. Open the source. Click the citation and look at who published the page and when. Primary sources such as government statistics, company filings and peer-reviewed studies carry more weight than summaries of them.
  2. Find the exact claim. Search the page for the number or phrase. Confirm it says what the answer says, with the same units, year and scope.
  3. Check the date. For prices, laws, market sizes and anything recent, make sure the source is current. If two sources disagree, ask Rixx to show both and explain the difference.

This takes a minute per claim. For a report you will act on, check the figures that drive the decision.

AI tools that cite sources, compared

Based on each company's own help pages as of October 2026.

Tool When it uses the web How citations appear
Rixx Research is on by default; no search toggle Every web fact cited inline, in answers, reports and files
Perplexity Searches the web for every query Numbered citations on answers
ChatGPT Searches automatically when a question would benefit, or when you choose search Inline citations and a Sources panel when it searched
Gemini Some responses are grounded in Google Search A sources button when sources are available
Claude Web search when enabled or when it helps, depending on the experience and plan Citations on responses that used search
Elicit and Consensus Search academic papers Paper citations

Rixx also does the work after the answer: deep research reports, wide research across many items, analysis of your files and data, and editable Word, PDF, Excel and PowerPoint files with the sources kept inside. See the AI research assistant page.

Where cited AI is most useful

  • Statistics for slides and reports. Get the figure, the publisher and the date in one step.
  • Fact-checking a claim. Ask Rixx to find the original data behind a number you saw quoted.
  • Literature and source lists. Build a list of credible sources with the finding and method for each.
  • Regulation and policy. Laws and rules change; a cited answer shows which version you're reading.
  • Client and investor work. Anything that will be questioned later should come with its sources.

Tips for getting better citations

  • Ask for primary sources. "Use government or company sources where possible."
  • Ask for dates. "Give the publication date for each figure."
  • Ask for disagreement. "If sources disagree, show the range."
  • Set the recency. "Only sources from 2025 or later."
  • Attach your own documents when they are the authority. Rixx answers with references back to them.

Frequently asked questions

Which AI cites its sources?

Several do, including Perplexity, ChatGPT when it searches, Gemini when sources are available, and academic tools such as Elicit and Consensus. Rixx researches by default with no search toggle, and every fact it takes from the web is cited inline, in chat answers and in the files it builds.

Does Rixx cite every answer?

Every fact Rixx takes from the web is cited inline. Some requests need no outside facts, such as rewriting text you supplied or working through a calculation, and those are answered from what you gave it.

Are AI citations reliable?

A citation tells you where to look; it is not a guarantee. Rixx links each web fact to a page it actually retrieved for your question, so you can open it and confirm the claim. Check the figures that matter most.

Can Rixx cite my uploaded documents?

Yes. Ask questions about your PDFs, Word, Excel or PowerPoint files and the answers point back to the document, so you can find the passage.

Do Rixx reports and slides include sources?

Yes. Research reports cite each claim where it is made and include a sources list. Slides that use outside data carry source lines. Sources stay inside the editable files.

Is there a free AI that cites sources?

Yes. Rixx's Free plan gives you 50 credits a day plus 500 a month, with every feature included. See pricing and the AI search engine page.
